Personalise what they wanted anyway

A personalised gift is the one nobody can return, which is its strength and its risk. Put a name on something they wanted and you have made it theirs. Put a name on something they did not and you have removed their only way out of it.

The order matters: choose the gift first, personalise second. Choosing an object because it can be engraved is how people end up with monogrammed things they never use.

Keep the engraving short

A date. Two initials. One line. Engraving is unforgiving of long sentences, both because of the space and because a paragraph cut into metal reads as a plaque rather than a gift.

The pieces still being used years later are almost always the ones with the fewest words on them.

One photograph, printed well

Photo gifts work when the photograph is the point and the object gets out of the way. A single good print, framed properly, beats the same image spread across a mug, a cushion and a keyring.

Check the resolution before you order. A picture that looks fine on a phone is often too small to print at any size worth framing, and that is better discovered before it is made than after.

Allow time

Anything engraved or printed takes longer than something picked off a shelf — usually two to four working days before it is dispatched, depending on what is being made.

If the date is fixed, say so when you order. We will tell you plainly whether it can be done rather than finding out late.

Common questions

How long does a personalised gift take to make?
Usually two to four working days before dispatch, depending on what is being engraved or printed, plus delivery time. Tell us the date you need it by and we will say whether it can be done.
What should I engrave on a gift?
A date, two initials, or one short line. Engraving suits few words; a long message cut into metal reads as a plaque rather than a gift. The pieces people keep are almost always the plainest.
What resolution does a photo gift need?
Higher than most phone screenshots. Upload the image when you order and we will tell you before anything is made if it is too small to print well, rather than after.
